Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic Surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery)

Minimally invasive surgery involves placing laparoscopic instruments through a number of small ports in the abdominal wall and directly visualising  the abdominal cavity. It is commonly performed procedure to investigate and treat conditions related to abdominal and pelvic organs.

Laparoscopic(key hole) surgery is associated with less pain, less complications, less scarring, shorter hospital stay and faster return to normal activities within few weeks.

Abdominal cavity is inflated with Carbon dioxide gas though a small cut near the navel so the laparoscope(telescope) which is a long thin instrument with a lighted tip is inserted to see inside of the abdomen, the operation is performed with the help of surgical instruments that are inserted through the ports into the abdomen. The gas is removed at the end of the procedure.
